After 2 days rest, I need to move off that odd Annie lodge and pub. The first 30 km are nice, way to West, in a valley between ranges, on South colorfull cliffs, on North hills, with acacia or eucalyptus open forest. The road is gently hilly, slowly climbing.
Then the road lets the cliffs, by turning on right, and follows the valley between hills. The forest mostly changes shrubs land. And the road becomes a lane of up and down, crests and floodways, tiring. I have backwind, fortunately.
I stop at the picnic area, which is at the top of the hill, with the lookout on all the valley. As it is without toilets, it should be very quiet, apart flies and bees.
Picnic area – Serpentine gorge – picnic area 37
The road continues to go up and down between 2 ranges of hills, with shrubs and scattered acacias. There are beautiful colours of vegetation and red soil. I have headwind today.
Big hole creek is a nice picnic area and a natural pool at the foot of a high red cliff.
Serpentine gorge too is a nice picnic area, with a short walk till the natural pool, at the foot of the cliff. A steepy climb drives at the top of the cliff, from where we see the canyon of the river, till a gate.
Then it is 7 km more till the picnic area, at the top of the hill, with a lookout on the valley, and no toilet. it is Better to stay in the campsites in serpentine gorge or hole creek.
Picnic area – Glen Helen – Ormiston gorge – picnic area 100
The road continues up and down, steep, through acacias open forest and shrubs land between ranges. There are beautiful colours.
Glen Helen gorge is a long and high red cliff, and too an expensive campsite. Ormiston gorge is a natural pool, and the dry bed of a river between 2 red walls. I climb the steps till the lookout, and there I observe carefully, and I notice it should have a way to continue a while and join the bed of the river. So I try, I follow the trail 10 mn more, and I find a dry steam going down to the river. I take it, and it is like natural steps, without difficulties. Then I have just to go back to the pool following the bed of the river, admiring the walls. Some children swim in the pool. I go back to the picnic area and campsite, which is 500 m further, near the Rangers house.
Then I go back till the first picnic area to sleep. It is very hot.

I come back for midday at Annie lodge, for one night, just before the heat.
